Earlier this year, I joined all of the other high school interns in NatureBridge’s Teen Environmental Education Mentorship (TEEM) program for our mid-year weekend retreat, on an amazing trip to Point Reyes National Seashore. As a seventh grader at Walter Reed Middle School in North Hollywood, California, 12-year-old Andrew David made his first, life-changing visit to Yosemite National Park with his school’s annual weeklong NatureBridge program. Andrew was so excited about the program that he is now a field science educator with NatureBridge, and he recently taught students from his former middle school at Yosemite. In small groups, we waded out toward the water-filled craters scattered across the beach: tide pools layered with dense eel grass that looked like rolling emerald fields in the high midday sun.
