I'm excited to announce that we have chosen two NatureBridge educators to lead the 2012 Armstrong Scholars Program!

Inspired by and in memory of former NatureBridge field educator Joie Armstrong, the Armstrong Scholars Program brings together young women, ages 15 to 18, for a truly empowering summer backpacking adventure in the High Sierra.

The following excerpts from their applications are just a taste of the motivation and inspiration that fuel their desire to lead:

"For the past 11 summers the Armstrong Scholars Program—Joie’s legacy—has connected young women to the earth, and has compelled them to be themselves, speak their truth fearlessly, and walk their own path to the beat of their own drums. It is a powerful program, and in the four and a half years that I have worked for NatureBridge, I have seen the Scholars and their leaders emerge both nurturing and fierce, dancing with fire in their hearts." —Genevieve Rice

"This adventure, with the unmatched backdrop of the Sierra Nevada, and the lively, colorful chorus and dance of the young women involved, is one that contagiously pulls anyone right into its performance. I am motivated because I cannot help but be a part of that song and dance, to accompany, and to lead." —Elspeth Hamilton

In my mind, nothing could be more exciting than connecting 12 young women with these adventurous, brave, and joyful leaders. If you know a young woman ready for the adventure of a lifetime, please encourage her to apply!
