As an environmental nonprofit, we seek to reduce our ecological footprint and to model thoughtful business practices to our participants and community.

Sustainable Practices

Our staff is continuously looking for new methods to improve our environmental bottom line. Our sustainable practices include:

Composting at Headlands Institute

  • Serving local and organic foods whenever possible
  • Using electric vehicles to make deliveries on campus
  • Shifting to environmentally friendly safe, non-toxic cleaning supplies
  • Composting participant food scraps and kitchen waste
  • Cooking with whole foods rather than pre-packaged foods
  • Using minimal paper products in our conference programs
  • Installing low flow toilets for a savings of 30,000 gallons of water annually
  • Using LED and compact fluorescent light bulbs
  • Installing carpets made from recycled plastic bottles
