Family Programs
Headlands Institute's Family Programs are designed to help your family connect with your local national park, the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. Enjoy your park in all seasons while you learn more about nature and get ideas about how your family can help care for the environment.

Family Hike and Campfire
September 11: 6-8:30pm register
November 13: 5-7:30 pm register
Calling all parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and siblings! Enjoy the great outdoors after the sun sets with a fun-filled family friendly hike and campfire. Gather 'round the campfire for quality time with your favorite friends and family, sing songs, and get silly with your siblings as you roast S'mores by moonlight.
*All ages are welcome. Baby carriers are suggested for children 4 and under.

Coastal Clean-up day register
Saturday, September 25: 9:30am-noon
Celebrate the 26th Annual California Coastal Cleanup Day with Stewardship at Rodeo Lagoon. Coastal Cleanup Day is the highlight of the California Coastal Commission's year 'round Adopt-a-Beach program. This is a great way for families, students, service groups, and neighbors to join together to take care of our fragile marine environment. Show your community support for our shared natural resources by lending a hand, learn about the impacts of marine debris, and spend some quality time with your kids outdoors. Meet at the picnic table by the Rodeo Beach Bridge, gloves and trash bags provided.

Life on the Edge at Point Bonita Lighthouse

Family Explorers Bay Sail register
Saturday, October 23: 9:30am-noon
Set sail for family adventure on the Schooner Seaward. Spend your Saturday morning navigating the bay, hoisting sails, singing sea chanties, and learning a bit about bay ecology. Headlands Institute has partnered with Call of the Sea to create this unique 2.5 hour experience filled with breathtaking views and one-of-a-kind memories.
*All ages are welcome. Life jackets provided. Sail departs from the dock outside Bay Model, Sausalito.
$25/person, pre-registration required
Colonies, Flocks, Packs, and Pods: Animal Families of the Headlands register
Saturday, November 6: 1-4pm
It's true what they say, birds of a feather flock together! Join us for a day outdoors and discover the unique familial characteristics of animals who call the Marin Headlands home. Learn how female seals find their pups among the ocean currents, listen for quails calling to their covey, and find out which animal family is called a MURDER, all while strengthening your own family ties!
* All ages are welcome. Baby carriers are suggested for children 4 and under.
