NatureBridge hosts the Wilderness Medicine Institute of National Outdoor Leadership School to deliver courses in wilderness medicine in Yosemite National Park.

Wilderness Medicine Training in Yosemite National Park

NatureBridge partners with the Wilderness Medicine Institute of NOLS to offer Wilderness First Responder and Wilderness First Responder Recertification courses. These are nationally recognized training courses that provide students with tools to respond to emergencies that arise in remote settings.

Wilderness First Responder with Wilderness Medicine Institute of NOLS

This intensive 10-day course is designed for outdoor professionals as well as anyone who spends time in the back country with responsibility for groups of family and friends. Topics include: patient assessment, body systems, equipment improvisation, trauma, environmental medicine, toxins, back country medicine, wilderness protocols, and wilderness rescue. You will divide your time between classroom instruction, hands-on practical skills, case studies, and scenarios designed to challenge your decision-making ability. Upon completion, students receive Wilderness First Responder certification, valid for two years.

Wilderness First Responder Recertification with Wilderness Medicine Institute of NOLS

Are your wilderness medicine protocols on the tip of your tongue or in the bottom of your pack? This three-day, scenario-based course is designed as review and practice of evacuation and decision making guidelines. It also provides current updates in the wilderness medicine field. 

There will be a written examination at the beginning of this course. Prepare for your course with these online resources. Learning takes place both in the classroom and in outdoor settings regardless of weather conditions. Come prepared for wet, muddy, cold or hot environments.

Prerequisites: You must possess a current WFR certification of at least 70 hours to recertify through a WFR Recertification course. It is your responsibility to make sure that your certification meets this standard. If you are unsure, please contact WMI before enrolling in a course.

The minimum age requirement for all courses is 16. Persons under 18 must be accompanied by a parent.
