A year with TEEM
Gain leadership skills, teaching experience, and new friends through our hands-on internship for high school students.
A year with TEEM
“My favorite part of TEEM is seeing kids ‘get it;’ that moment when you make an impact in the mindset of your students. It's the best feeling”.
Summer Training Session
The TEEM internship begins in August with a six-day training in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. Participants learn firsthand about coastal ecology and develop outdoor skills through hiking and an overnight camping trip. Interactive workshops introduce environmental education concepts, teaching strategies and public speaking tools. This amazing team-building experience trains interns to become effective leaders and prepares them for the exciting year ahead.
School Year Paid Internship
After summer training, TEEM interns lead Eco-Athletics, interactive games about the environment, with our elementary school participants once a week during after-school hours. Interns learn and practice teaching techniques and hone public speaking skills while inspiring children, adults, and the next generation of youth leaders. In addition, TEEM interns serve as campus stewards, with regular duties that include feeding and caring for our intertidal marine lab animals.
Each intern is paired with a NatureBridge environmental science educator to learn firsthand about environmental education. In the fall, interns spend a full day outside with our environmental science program, observing their mentor in action. Mentors and the TEEM program manager help interns set attainable goals and provide the guidance to ensure they accomplish them throughout the year.
"This program has helped me unlock my leadership potential to help the community. I’m applying to nine colleges to pursue my dream of becoming a high school teacher, one of the most needed leadership positions in California.”
